50 Mile Race Overview
Race Route will be determined according to weather conditions and is subject to change
Rules 50 Mile
The trail of the 50 mile Caledonia Classic is an out and back trail run on the lake and through bush trails. The race starts in the town of Fort St. James on the shores of Stuart Lake at the famous Cottonwood beach. Teams leave the starting line with a mass start and cross the lake traveling along the shoreline for ten miles passing several homes, a marina and two provincial parks.
After ten miles on the lake, teams leave the lake and go onto bush trails following the lake shore. The next 15 miles, teams run northwest paralleling the lake. The trail has rolling hills, narrow sections, bridges and passes through some beautiful Douglas fir stands.
There will be a large tear drop turnaround at Whitefish Bay and teams will run the same trail back through the bush and across the lake to the finish line at Cottonwood Beach. There will be head-on passing but trails are wide enough to pass safely.
