200 Mile Yukon Quest and Iditarod Qualifier

Picture
Jerry Joinson
Jerry ran his first race when he was 9 years old with his pet German Shepherd, back in 1951. From there, Jerry moved on to 3 Yukon Quest finishes. He has raced here numerous times and we are glad to have him back in the Fort. Jerry discovered his love of dogs and mushing as a kid growing up in Cumberland House, Sask. The dogs have been an important part of his life ever since. He now works as a summer dogsled tour guide enabling him to work with dogs year round.

I live for mushing

From France, I was crossing Canada from cost to cost by hiking, canoeing, biking and skiing. But on the road, I met a musher who (that is her words) "ruined my life" with sled dogs !

100 Mile Race

Marcel Marin
Founder and owner of Underdog Kennels.  Marcel was basically born on the back of a dog team.  Dogs are his life (not a hobby).
Since childhood traveling, hunting and trapping on the tundra and eventually stepping into racing. From 1 dog races to the Yukon Quest, Marcel has raced it all and always staying true to owning a small kennel of never having over 10 dogs. We found our passion in racing tough mid-distance races, winning the Canadian Challenge twice and the Underdog 3 times; and last year (his favorite race) The Caledonia Classic 7-dog 100 miles. Dogs are my life.

I started mushing a couple of years ago. The connection with the dogs -and the fact that you have to deal with humans only minimally- was what got me hooked. I cannot imagine anything better in life than being out on the trail with my family and hearing the dogs breathe while enjoying the sounds and smells nature offers. Being with dogs is such a magical thing. This year, I moved my family back to British Columbia and we started our own kennel. Great to have a wonderful kennel partner to train and share chores with and the mushing community has welcomed us with open arms.

Typical musher type eclectic character with 2.4 kids and 32 dogs, we run a quasi successful tour biz here in revelstoke where I’m supported by my wife, lovely children and a great supporting cast of guides, I work my ass off in forestry in the summer to allow me the privilege of running dogs full time for 7 months a year

Silus Godber
My name is Silas Godber, and I am 16 years old. I live near Prince George. I decided I wanted to try dogsledding after reading Winterdance by Gary Paulsen. I started out with the family’s fat Norwegian Elkhound and got her to pull me in a wagon. She was too slow for me, so I got an Alaskan Husky. Then I got two, then four and now six. I am really looking forward to my first distance race! I also enjoy making sleds and just being around dogs.

Picture
Megan McCullough
My name is Megan and I am from the Quesnel area. I own a dog grooming shop and have 16 dogs, so dogs are my life. I was hoping to have a bit more racing experience before doing the 100 mile race, but with everything being cancelled last year I decided to go for it this year anyways. Craig said I would be fine so here we go.

Her lead dogs this weekend are Echo, a 3 year old female, and Bolt, a 6 year old male. This is Ann's 2nd year racing. When she isn't getting to run her first race, this 12 year old can be found working hard on her school work. Ann would like to give a special thanks to her Gramma for lending her her favourite racing dogs.

Amanda Price
Born and raised in Fort St James. I got the mush bug about 3 years ago when I got my first Siberian x malamute (Ella). Slowly building up going from one dog to two, skijoring to a sled!

Alexander Campbell
I'm new to the racing world. This will be my first season racing as I pursue competitive skijoring with my small team. I previously worked in Canmore, AB working at Snowy Owl Dog Sled Tours. After working as a tour guide introducing guests from all over the world to mushing Ive caught the bug and ended up taking home some of Snowy's retired dogs. Well a few years later and I've bought myself some sprint dogs and hoping to compete in Western Canada's dryland/skijoring circuit.

Dominique Morin
I'm Dominique. I live near Horsefly, BC. I've been skijoring recreationally for 4 years. I recently acquired more sled dogs to make a small sled team so it will be my first year on sled. What attracted me to the sport is my love for the dogs, being out on the trail with my best buds and seeing what these amazing dogs are capable of.

Qlan Hill
Cross Country skiing for four years, this will be my first skijor race.

Picture
Ann Douglas
I maintain a small kennel which I train regularly and share racing and events with my granddaughter Ann Doreen Douglas. For years I have been a regular at any sprint races within reasonable driving distance and on the Gold Rush Mail Run. I prefer stage racing (daily 75 km) to the distance racing that requires running the dogs at night while making my own coffee on the trail! We are very lucky to have the Caledonia Classic as a racing event we can count on. Well organized and amazing volunteers!!

Picture
Karen Joseph
Karen has been an invaluable volunteer at Dog Power Adventures for over 10 years. The dogs know her as their favorite "Auntie Cookie" as she keeps them supplied with treats, toys and veggie stew (that is added to their raw diet). The postal slogan has nothing on Karen, as 3 days a week she travels through snow, sleet, hail, rain, and sometimes even mud for 30 minutes to help care for the Siberian Huskies, Canadian Inuit Dogs, and assorted house dogs. Her love for the dogs always shines through!
