Caledonia Classic Sprint Trails
Four dog - Four Mile Trail / Two Skijor Trail
The races start on Stuart Lake. It is a timed start with either one or two teams leaving at the same time. The race marshal makes this decision according to the number of teams and the speed of each team. The marshal’s goals are to make sure all the teams have a clean run and do not have any head-on passing.
The trail is an out and back with a large teardrop loop. Teams leave the starting chute, run ½ mile up the lake and then cross the lake to Temple Point, which is two miles from the start. At Temple Point race officials are stationed to be sure teams loop to the right (north east) and begin the return trail for 1.5 miles where they will join the main trail for the last ½ mile to the finish line.
The trails are all groomed and marked weeks prior to the race and multiple times on race weekend. But due to the nature of running on a lake the trail can change by the minute. Wind, slush, overflow or a heavy snowstorm can turn a beautiful trail into non-existent trail.
The trail crew does everything they can to keep the trail in good race conditions all weekend!
